VALCIVIR Tablets are indicated for the treatment of various herpes virus infections, as given below:
Adults
- Cold sores (herpes labialis)
- Initial and recurrent episodes of genital herpes in immunocompetent patients
- Suppression of recurrent episodes of genital herpes in immunocompetent and HIV-infected patients
- Reduction of the transmission of genital herpes in immunocompetent patients
- Herpes zoster (shingles) in immunocompetent adult
Children
- Cold sores in children, 12 years of age and older
- Chickenpox in immunocompetent patients aged 2 to <18 years
- Based on efficacy data from clinical studies with oral acyclovir, treatment with valacyclovir should be initiated within 24 hours after the onset of rash.
